Monies will be used to develop mechanical courses, support the MCAA student chapter and award scholarships

Dave Davia, CEO and Executive Vice President of the Colorado Association of Mechanical and Plumbing Contractors (CAMPC), the affiliate of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Colorado (MCA), announced that the MCA Colorado Board of Directors approved a $100,000 gift to the CSU’s Construction Management (CM) program over the next five years. This renews the 5-year, $100,000 pledge made in 2008.

The funds will be used to boost mechanical instruction in the curriculum as well as support the MCAA student chapter, which earned the 2012 Chapter of Excellence grant from the Mechanical Contracting Education and Research Foundation.

“By the association continuing the grant, the Construction Management Department is able to strengthen the mechanical focus for our students,” said Mostafa Khattab, Head, Department of Construction Management.  “We continue to be inspired by the support from the Mechanical Contractors Association of Colorado, its Board of Directors, and their contractor members.  We are truly grateful for their support.”

This pledge brings the total contributions by MCA Colorado to nearly $300,000. When coupled with the support of its contractor members for the renovation of the Industrial Sciences Building, the total contributions from leaders in the mechanical industry during the past 10 years is almost $750,000.

“Our industry’s support and commitment to the CM program is important to our members and the industry,” said Davia. “Our collective contributions would not have been possible without the reforms made by the department and University to greatly improve the quality of students’ experience. It is truly a great partnership, and our sincere thanks go to department head Mostafa Khattab for making the CSU CM program vision for excellence a reality. We look forward to working more closely with the College’s new dean, Jeff McCubbin, and the University President, Tony Frank, to continue on this path of excellence.”

As part of its support, MCA Colorado awarded CSU Construction Management student and MCAA student chapter member, Hayden Rice,  a scholarship at the Sept. 11 CSU Construction Management awards banquet attended by approximately 150 CSU staff, students, construction leaders and industry partners. Rice and his team won first place in the mechanical division at the 2013 ASC competition earlier this year and will participate again in the competition in February 2014.
